As a talented budding photographer D wanted to give a photoshoot to her Dad for Father’s Day. They chose to have their Daddy Daughter session in the fall to catch the colors. Boy did they choose the perfect day! We met at Saratoga Spa State park in Saratoga Springs, NY on a weekday afternoon. Did I mention they couldn’t have chosen a more perfect day? Perfect colors! Perfect Fall light! Perfect temp! We just walked and talked about life and photography. I love just watching a parent and child interact and laugh together. I have been photographing this beautiful person since she was just a little girl. Now look at her! She is kind, smart, and so much fun! What a joy it is to watch her grow! Perfect young teen make-up done by the amazing Crystal Gardner (D’s Mom!). Love how it gave her a gorgeous pop of color but was just the right amount for her age. Amazing as always Crystal!
When my Dan was a teenager a little baby was named after him. A pretty cool honor. Fast forward and here we have Dan K who is now in his Senior year at Queensbury High School in Upstate New York. Dan and Dan have become amazing friends and it has been a delight to watch him through the years. When we started talking senior pictures Dan wasn’t sure what he wanted but then he came up with the amazing idea to utilize his bass instrument, his Rugby uniform, and his love of weight lifting. It was REALLY hard to narrow down for this Sneak Peek! Dan has so many different incredible smiles! There wasn’t even room here for one of his big infectious smiles in this blog post so you’ll have to keep an eye out for those to pop up on Instagram in the near future! Here’s to a great Senior Year!
I’ll try not to get too personal here…
My big brother. Life has taken us to the far sides of the country. We try to keep in touch and thank goodness for social media! Life is busy. Life is crazy. Oh how I wish life got me to Oregon more often! When I found out that my brother was dating this amazing woman all I wanted to know was how can I meet her and what can I do to help?! They eloped to Hawaii and had the most gorgeous, personal wedding! I am so thrilled for them but as a traveling wedding and family photographer I ached to photograph this incredible event in their lives! Can you blame me?!
While we were all in Alaska together I was able to meet his gorgeous bride and see my nieces and nephews. We took some time away from all the wonderful chaos of a family reunion/Alaska vacation and headed to Kincaid Park for some family photo time. The light couldn’t have been more amazing! I love photographing families. I love the time it gives me to see family dynamics. I love to study people’s personality and what makes them, well…them. This was a chance to see how much Bria loves her accessories. This was a chance to experience the incredible sense of humor that Beth has. This was a chance to see Brock and Kelsie lovingly harass each other and to remember that they got it from their father ;). This was a chance to learn that for his senior pictures Brock wants something completely un-ordinary. This was a chance for me to capture this family in a beautiful setting at a time in their lives that they always want to remember and look back on.
Enjoy this sneak peak for now! More to come!

I think I know that the most important thing I can do is raise my children. I think I know that the time will fly by and I will miss it. I think I know that I just have to try my best and it’ll work out. But some days I don’t know it at all. Some days are just really hard. Some days my perfectly imperfect life I try to love and smile about just seems too much too handle. Some days I want to wake up and be glamorous and go out and conquer the world. My heart says, “You can do more good one child at a time”. My extroverted spirit screams to be sipping herbal tea and talking business and pretty sparkly things with other adults. Balance.
My biggest goals in life have always been to never regret, to let go of perfection, and to do good. My biggest fears…1) That I’ll rush through this unbearably wonderful and awful stage of life and wish I had slowed down, and 2) that I will only survive these years and not Thrive and 3) that I will forget all the little moments. Do you love how my greatest fears completely contradict each other? *sigh* Balance.
What is the hardest thing for you on a daily basis? What brings you the most joy?
Lee was such a good sport and so much fun to photograph! Between the bowtie, guitar, muscles, and truck we had a blast! Leave Lee some love in the comments!
Lauren is fun and incredibly relaxed in front of the camera. We breezed through her session, not even realizing how much time had gone by until our stomachs were growling! Lauren attends Berkeley High School and is part of the Class of 2014. She has been cheering for Berkeley since the 7th grade. She plans to attend Winthrop University with a major in Criminal Justice and a minor in Spanish! Man how I love the lush green of South Carolina! What a joy it was to photograph there and with such an amazing model!
