We always encourage high school seniors to bring a friend to their custom photography session. It often helps them to relax and enjoy the experience a little more. In this case it was a sister best friend! One of the things that we do is help our clients to choose the outfits that will photograph well, make the feel the best, and of course, be the most flattering and fun. Bonus with Carol and Claire is there closet is interchangeable! After selecting several outfits for each girl we headed into Charleston to the beach. We of course had to get in some shots of both girls separately and together. In this “Not quite High School Senior Photography Session” we were able to capture a little of this girl and her HUGE personality. Claire is beautiful and kind. She is the youngest and full of spunk and never ending personality. We can’t wait until it’s her turn for her Custom Senior Photography Session!
There’s a lot more black and white in this High School Senior Photo Session then you usually see. There’s plenty of color too I promise! This sneak peek I just couldn’t resist these black and whites because B&W and freckles make me swoon. We combined this Berkeley High School Senior’s love of the beach and pretty dresses with her love for soccer. She is a fierce soccer player with a heart of gold. Even when I heard her telling stories of something that had gone wrong or something bad that had happened she always told it with a kind, positive perspective. This incredible woman is going to change the world just by being a part of it and we are so lucky she is! I can’t wait to see what the next few years hold for her!
This Sister Photography Session over spring break was so much fun! Not only did we get to go to the beach at sunset but we also got to walk around and shoot in downtown Charleston, SC at night. Claire and her sister are best friends. I was around them a lot during spring break. I had to ask their mom if they ever fought. The response was, “occasionally over clothes but not really.” Wow! They are so lucky to have each other! It was such a pleasure to capture this moment in their lives. Before long they will both be off at college and things will change. They will always be sisters and best friends but it will be different. Not bad or good but different. It is so important to capture the now so that we will never forget. Although in the moment it’s hard to imagine forgetting, time dulls those incredible moments unless they are captured in a photograph.
Can I just say how amazing it was to be near the beach and to get to photograph this incredible prom couple during sunset on James Island in South Carolina? It was incredible! This sunset beach prom photo session was a little more rushed then we usually like but hey, sometimes you just have to roll with it. When the couple are both advanced student athletes with packed schedules you just make things work. I had to bust out my make-up skills (which are thanks to Crystal Gardner) in the car on the way to the beach. I think I did pretty good! Granted I had an incredible canvas to paint!!
The gnats were insane and we spent a huge portion of our time batting them away. We were rushed and feeling a little drained I think. But then the sunset happened and it was all worth it! These two look amazing together and the best part is they are just as amazing inside and out. I asked Carol what she liked about Chase and she told me how much fun he was and how he always made her laugh. Sounds like the perfect prom date to me!
Today these two celebrate their anniversary. I know I’ve mentioned it before but Anniversary Photo Sessions are fast becoming my absolute favorite type of session to photograph. As we go through life it changes us. Life is hard. But life is also good and joyful. In order to get through we need people that we can laugh with, grow with, cry with, and possible even yell with. When I photograph couples that have been married for several years or dozens I can see them seeing each other in such a different way. They see the years of ache, the years of laughter. They see the bad and the good, the messy, and the complicated in each other.
Marriage is work. My Mother-in-law always quotes Mignon McLaughlin when she says, “A successful marriage requires falling in love many times, always with the same person.” My wish for all of us is that our lives and marriages will be filled with kindness and joy! I know this couple certainly made me laugh as we captured them during a sunset outside their home in the Charleston, South Carolina area. They were good sports as I made them answer questions and do silly things to bring out their true smiles!
In this day and age I truly believe that every professional woman needs a professional headshot. More then a professional headshot, she needs images that show who she is as a person and as a business professional. We have designed a photo session just for this purpose! A personal branding photography session is designed with you in mind. Personal branding sessions are designed to show who you are, what you do, and what people can expect from you all in one image. This is more then just a headshot. These personal branding images are an expression of who you are. Beyond the basic business headshot we also like to have a little fun!
I can always count on my friend Erin from Erin Marie Photography to look amazing! Hair and Make-up by the very talented Tina Felton. Her and I have been planning this session for months! The stars all aligned and we were able to get together for a couple of hours and just play. Isn’t she just stunning?!!
Words cannot express what this girl means to me. She has been nothing but kind and caring from the beginning. She is loving and accepting. She is loyal and always there when I need her. We met many years ago when I hadn’t lived in this area for very long. I often felt alone and so very far from home. Home is where there is love and friends who are willing to let themselves in so their kids can use your bathroom!!!
This is always the hardest part, where to begin. Love is never simple and therefore can be so difficult to describe. The best love is kind. The best love can be seen and felt; it is full of patience and understanding. The best kind of love can be seen in the eyes and in the way two people’s hearts connect. Love isn’t a one time thing. Love happens, continues, and stays when two people choose to constantly give of themselves and fall in love over and over again. This is the kind of love that Wayne and Emily share. We have known Wayne and Emily both for several years now. The Lord puts people into our lives, personally, professionally, or sometimes just for a moment, but he puts them there because it is RIGHT. We are so blessed to be a small part of Wayne and Emily’s story.
I photographed Emily as a model for some commercial work I was doing. I knew right then and there I HAD to photograph her wedding. Then they met, fell in love, and eloped! The perfect story for this amazing pair!
After 1 year of marriage they set a date to be sealed together for time and all eternity in the Palmyra, New York Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I was so honored to be a part of this day. What a joy it was to photograph this step in their journey together!
We had this gorgeous day with friends to soak in the sun and worship The Son. It was perfect. Congratulations you two!!

Oh my…we had way too much fun that morning! Piper’s parents where a Brayton Photography Bride and Groom several years ago now. What a joy to be a part of things as Piper grows! How big is Piper?!! That, and showing us her shoes never failed to make her happy! I haven’t seen this girl since her newborn session just about and it was so amazing to see how much she has grown and how much personality she has! Then there was that moment when she just sat in her cake. I almost missed the shot because I was busting up laughing so hard…but don’t worry I got it! Enjoy this sneak peek Mommy and Daddy!! Thank you to Jordan Weinberger of Bake by Jordan for her gorgeous cake.
I met this family through a friend of a friend I think! Beth is one of the kindest women I’ve ever met. The first time I photographed them their youngest was just a baby. I love when I get to watch kids grow! It took a few fake farting noises and lots of the the words like “poop” and “fart” to get these boys to relax. Oh and yeah and maybe a few sticks too. But between Dan and I we were able to win them over! We had so much fun at their house. The boys gave us a full tour of their little corner of the earth that felt a bit like heaven that day!
“Brothers don’t shake hands, brothers gotta hug!”
Enjoy your sneak peak to tide you over!
Lauren is fun and incredibly relaxed in front of the camera. We breezed through her session, not even realizing how much time had gone by until our stomachs were growling! Lauren attends Berkeley High School and is part of the Class of 2014. She has been cheering for Berkeley since the 7th grade. She plans to attend Winthrop University with a major in Criminal Justice and a minor in Spanish! Man how I love the lush green of South Carolina! What a joy it was to photograph there and with such an amazing model!
