Trash the Dress Session – Saratoga Springs, NY

May 26, 2016 | Leave a Comment

trash-the-dress

Not trash the dress is the traditional sense of the word but a more modern sense.

The wedding day is an amazing celebration of the joining of two lives and families. I adore what it is and what it does. When I look back, however, I only have one wish. I wish that I had worn my dress just ONE more time! We’re calling this a “Wear the Dress one more time” session!

Crystal has become so near and dear to my heart. I have known her and watched her as she’s overcome difficulties and trials and have watched her succeed with sparkle and glamour! She found this amazing boy who makes her laugh, balances her, and supports her. Their engagement session was FREEZING. Their wedding was unbelievably beautiful and also…FREEZING! I knew we had to shoot her in this dress one more time.

This day couldn’t have been more perfect. Jon and Crystal came and my heart swelled as I saw her relax into him, smile, laugh and just be HER. We found some pink trees at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs to match Crystal’s pink dress and just spent some time walking around campus in the sun. This is a brief sneak peak into the gorgeous images we created in this modern “Trash the dress” session.

If you missed the post from their New Year’s Eve wedding you can find it here!

A big shout out once again to Jocelynn’s bridal for the incredible dress!

Casey!! This girl is amazing! I met her when I moved to New York but our families have been friends for generations. I photographed her senior pictures and it feels like just yesterday. But now she’s been off to college and gone and got herself even more grown up!

Wayne and Emily – Forever Love

May 14, 2016 | 2 Comments

This is always the hardest part, where to begin. Love is never simple and therefore can be so difficult to describe. The best love is kind. The best love can be seen and felt; it is full of patience and understanding. The best kind of love can be seen in the eyes and in the way two people’s hearts connect. Love isn’t a one time thing. Love happens, continues, and stays when two people choose to constantly give of themselves and fall in love over and over again. This is the kind of love that Wayne and Emily share. We have known Wayne and Emily both for several years now. The Lord puts people into our lives, personally, professionally, or sometimes just for a moment, but he puts them there because it is RIGHT.  We are so blessed to be a small part of Wayne and Emily’s story.

I photographed Emily as a model for some commercial work I was doing. I knew right then and there I HAD to photograph her wedding. Then they met, fell in love, and eloped! The perfect story for this amazing pair!

After 1 year of marriage they set a date to be sealed together for time and all eternity in the Palmyra, New York Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I was so honored to be a part of this day. What a joy it was to photograph this step in their journey together!

We had this gorgeous day with friends to soak in the sun and worship The Son. It was perfect. Congratulations you two!!

Mommy and Me – Saratoga Springs, NY

May 11, 2016 | Leave a Comment

Viginia and Olivia

We did a mini Mommy and Me session with our favorite accessories. We spent a rainy day in Saratoga Springs, NY just playing, taking “pictures” with our binoculars, and wearing all the necessary adornments! There might have been a few burps and toots and hilarious laughter then ensued as well. But only maybe. I was put to the test juggling, camera, lighting, and a little blue bouncy ball with rough edges flying at me! (only the ball was flying at me, not the camera or lighting). My smile hurt when we were done!

I met Virginia scrolling through Instagram. I was immediately drawn to her feed…clean and beautiful! I had to look at her website. The same. I wandered to her blog, Razimus Jewelry. (We’ll call it my small adventure for the day). It was of course also gorgeous and with incredible content. I loved it! When I got the idea for this Mother’s Day Giveaway I knew immediately that I wanted her to be a part of it. Not only was she amazing to work with, she’s beautiful and then there’s her daughter!

Thank you so much little one for reminding me what it means to be a little princess! And thank you Virginia for being an amazing woman, mom, and business owner!

Be present in photos -Mommy Daughter Photos

May 8, 2016 | Leave a Comment

I know I say this a lot. Please Mom’s be present in photographs – by yourself and Mommy daughter (or son) photos! Please don’t stress about how you look or how much weight you’ve gained. Please just be there. You don’t have to post them to social media, just take them. Make sure they exist – that you exist in photographs. Get in those photos with your daughter or son. Take those weird Mommy daughter selfies! Just get in the photo. Do it for them. Every time you think you don’t want to have your picture taken try to remember that it’s not for you, it’s for them! (I’ll harp later about how important it is to actually print them as well!) We are so lucky to live in a time when photos are so easy!

I have 3 main images of my Mom that I remember seeing growing up. I LOVE them! They are the only record I have of what she was like. As I’ve gone through stages in life I’ve wanted desperately to see my Mom at those same stages – to feel connected to her in that way.

This image is the only one I know of or remember from my Mom as a child and I adore it! It was a professional photo I believe. This photo makes me swoon every time I see it. I picture my Mom as a little girl just like my little girls! Not too mention that it’s a beautiful piece of art!

Be present in photos-1 I’m sure there are others but this is one of the only photos of know of from when my Mom was a young adult. This is how I picture her…camping and having dogs along. I LOVE her smile. This is my vibrant and amazing mother!Be present in photos-2This is a photo of my Mom holding me. Once again, there may be others but this is the ONE image I remember from her and I together when I was young. This is my one Mommy daughter image that I have of us. My Mom was often on the other side of the camera so getting a photo of us together didn’t happen often. My mom existed. She was a present and wonderful Mom but memories fade. I want to always have these images to remind me of what she was like when she had 4 young kids, as I do now.

As I got older, and cameras got better, we  of course took more photos. This is my Mom and I in Alaska, on a Kenai Fjords Tour boat, one summer while I was in college. This photo is fun but it doesn’t create the same emotion in me as the others do, but I hope that someday my daughters will treasure it as I treasure the “camping photo” of my Mom.

Of course now, in the world of cell phones selfies, my Mommy daughter images have increased threefold! We take selfies every chance we get!! Here we are overlooking Lake George, NY! I adore this lady and am so grateful for photographs that I can treasure long after she is gone and my mind can’t quite hold on to the memory of her!Mommy-daughter-photo-lake-george-ny-1
